Instructions & Benefits
Remove all standing water from playing surfaces, either using a squeegee, dragging a 1" rubber hose or whatever method you normally use. Hardware stores or most any garden center sells the small hand held spreaders, Earthway makes the best one for around $20. Use the lowest setting and put about a pound of Rain Out into the holding area of the spreader. If you start at 1st base, walk and spread the Rain Out heading toward 2nd base, then on to 3rd base. As your walking, have players start raking product into ground, depending on how wet the field is, just keep raking more, it may take 5 to 15 minutes but keep raking, this moves the material around and it will keep soaking up the water. Proceed to turn around at 3rd base and cover the outer section of the infield working your way back to 2nd base and onto 1st base. Once the players have raked the infield. The area that you spread first should be dry and probably the outer area from 3rd to 2nd. You can then drag your field as normal and play ball.
It's very important not to overuse Rain Out, once you've applied the product and raked the field and you still think it's too wet after plenty of raking, you can re-apply but we suggest that you walk faster on the second application. You can probably just drag the second application into the infield if needed. It takes some practice to learn not to over-do.
Leave the material on the field, you won't be able to see it anyway but, it will maintain the moisture content that you want and need for truer bounces. You won't need to water the field after every game, just drag. You will probably only water before the first game and that is all that will be needed.
Remember, Rain Out will pick up over 250 times its weight in water, and we're just drying out dirt....it goes a long way!
Other field dry products have to be scooped up and being that they are clay based, they leave your infield dirt hard and sometimes slick.
If you put Rain Out on water, it will turn to a gel and you will have to scoop this off of your field. It's important to get the water off first.
If you have "Hot Spots" or areas that won't stay green, apply Rain Out to these areas and it will maintain the moisture content from rain or sprinklers to make and keep these areas green.
